He was born in Macedonia but to-date I have been unable to find out in which town/city.

This is a general ''problem'' in Swiss football journalism when researching. One hardly finds birth places in player profiles, mostly profiles contain the player's ''Stammklub'' (player's first youth club).

This has to do, I believe, with the fact that in Swiss passports one doesn't have the place of birth in it, but the ''Heimatort'' or ''Bürgerort''. This expression can't be translated with "home town'', as it is the place where the father's ancestors originally come from, and is, these days, seldom the place of birth or the place where one grew up. It is a legal term that has it's roots in the mediaeval times... one of these weird peculiarities of Switzerland... ;-)
Ergo, the place of birth doesn't seem to be important in Switzerland...

cheers

I wrote FC Zurich an e-mail. Reply: "Detovo"

So I believe that Dzemaili was born in Tetovo, Macedonia

cheers

You're damned right "Mike".... It's always a problem.

Today I was reading a quite useless book "Football Vaudois 1903-2003" and discovered that Frankie Sechehaye was born and grew up in... Mozambique and never find it in any normal Swiss source he is "bourgeois de Genève" independently from his birthplace...
We need confirmation however. Don't we?

I think to, I got him born in Geneve, I never see any thing about Mozambique.
